KEYPORT MUNICIPAL COURT 

MISSION STATEMENT
We are an independent branch of government constitutionally entrusted with the fair and just resolution of disputes in order to preserve the rule of law and to protect the rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States and this State.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MUNICIPAL COURT

The Municipal Court is responsible for processing all motor vehicle tickets within the Borough of Keyport jurisdiction as well as all Borough ordinances, disorderly and petty disorderly person offenses, SPCA, Weights and Measures, Fish and Game, Solid Waste, Local Park Commission, and Forest and Parks complaints.

COURT SESSIONS
In person municipal court sessions are currently suspended until further notice with few exceptions. If you have a court date or would like to contest a matter in the municipal court, please call (732) 739-5155 to provide your information to be scheduled for a virtual court hearing. Virtual court hearings are currently being scheduled on Thursdays at 2:30 PM, see court calendar dates.

PAYMENT INFORMATION
Payments can be sent through the mail or made at the violation's bureau window.

If you need help locating your ticket information to pay online, please call (732) 739-5155.  We do not accept payments over the phone.

For your convenience, there is a drop box located in the lobby of Keyport Borough Hall, which is available 24 hours a day. NO CASH - check or money order only please.

ONLINE MUNICIPAL COURT RESOLUTION
The state has launched a new program that allows you to dispute certain traffic offenses without having to appear in court in person or virtually. If you would like to see if your traffic offense is eligible, go to NJMCdirect.com click on traffic ticket, enter your ticket information, then click search. If your offense is eligible, you will have the option to pay the ticket or dispute the case. If you choose to dispute the case, be sure to check your email frequently for information from the prosecutor. Once the prosecutor reviews the case, you will only have 5 days to respond. 

 ADJOURNMENT POLICY

• Any case less than 30 days from the issue date will receive ONE adjournment for any reason with supporting documents.
• Cases between 30 and 60 days old MUST submit their adjournment request in writing accompanied by supporting documents at least 7 days prior to the scheduled court date if there is an involved party, 4 days prior if not. No adjournments will be granted during the week of the scheduled court session, with the exception of emergent requests.
• Discovery requests must be made in the courtroom to the Municipal Court Judge during a scheduled court session for any cases 30 days or older from the date of issue.
• Emergent requests due to illness, accident or other unanticipated events shall be granted only if supporting proofs are supplied to the court.
• Adjournments are not to be considered granted unless confirmed with court staff.

THIS POLICY WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED AS THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS REQUIRES A 60 DAY DISPOSITION OF ANY CASE FROM THE ISSUE DATE
