Fellow Residents,
The fact that you have come to this site means that you care about something in Keyport. The character of this town is best displayed by its active and involved volunteers and concerned residents. Self reliance and individual initiative are the traits that built America and keep this little Borough a vital and exciting place to live.
Sometimes the government can guide and assist the residents in the furtherance of their personal and civic goals. That is why government exists, not to support the people but to assist them. If any of us working for the Borough, whether elected officials or staff, can be of service please call or email the appropriate Department. The contact numbers and addresses can be found elsewhere on this website. If you would like to discuss an issue directly with myself or a member of the Council, please call 732-739-5124 to schedule an appointment.
The economy is going to require all of us to rein in our expectations of government for now and the foreseeable future. Personal incomes are down, business activity may be mired in a long period of limited or minimal growth, and as a result government revenues have declined. Frugality is no longer just a virtue; it is a necessity. Resources must be concentrated to preserve essential services and maintain what we already have.
As someone who grew up with my parents' stories of the Great Depression, and as an avid viewer of The History Channel, I know that while this may not be the best of times, it is far from the worst of times. The collective character and determination of our community will get Keyport through these challenges. This town is in the fourth century of its history. The spirit of innovation and personal endeavor inspired those who walked and rode these streets before us. Keyport has been many things: the "fishing point," the "key port," "mechanicsville," the home of world renowned boat builders and seamen, the home of many distinguished agriculturalists, professionals, artisans, artists, business people, and a chief justice of New Jersey's highest court. Our community still nurtures that spirit. It will guide us all into the future.
Thank You,
Robert E. McLeod-Mayor
